CD 'Secrets of the dark forest'

Wulaba & the majic voices are proud to present their first album release “Secrets of the dark forest”. The songs are sung in Mandinka, Wolof, Djola and Creole.The album has been dedicated to the memory of Foday’s mother Bintou WUNJUNG Jatta.

Spending her life as a drumming GRIOT, Wunjung was a cultural messenger who performed in W/Africa including Senegal, the Gambia and Guinea Bisseau. She travelled and performed with her dance troupe AJARRMANDJO, and for many years she regularly played on a Friday night at the spirit place called BANTUMBA in Perisac, Ziguinchor where she drummed, healed, sang and danced reminding the people of the traditions associated with their cultural rituals and ceremonies.The music on the album is recognised in W/Africa as Afro-Manding. The songs tell stories that remind us of our way back to our roots (Wulaba). The rhythms can entice you to dance or simply relax and enjoy the majical palette of songs and melodies that makes this album unique.
