WULABA and THE MAJIC VOICES

Wulaba & the Majic Voices are a 9 – 10 piece Afro-Manding band
led by Foday Kamara. The sweet music and melodic tunes tell the
stories of the rich cultures and the diversity of the peoples of
West Africa. The songs speak of unity, love, respect, values,
progress, peace & acceptance of all people. Foday speaks from
the heart of the Bantaba – the jujuoto – the cultural singing
place. The music encourages people to go back to their roots –
their WULABA. The Majic Voices will sing to your hearts and
remind you to shine your light. The songs are sung in Mandinka,

Jola, Wolof, Fula, Creole, English and French. The band consists

of artists from south, central & east Gippsland. Foday plays gui-
tar, bongo, drums & balafon. He is also the writer, composer &
arranger, and most important, a patient instructor.

The band also consists of kit drum, bass, djembe(accompaniment)
2 guitars(accompaniment), guitar(solo) and 3 voices back-up
vocals. Performances of Wulaba & the Majic Voices are supported
by African drumming – Foday (djembe), Mariama(dun-dun), and
students are encouraged to perform(playing accompaniment) on
these occasions.Sometimes the band is accompanied by saxo-
phone, keyboard & other instruments. The band members wear
bright & colourful costumes and the performances are visually
exciting. Moving between sweet music and exhillarating rhythms.
